Product Description If you want a great value netbook you canÂt go wrong with the Samsung N130. In fact, the only things that have been cut down are its cost and weight. At just 1.25kg the N130 is the lightest in its class, with a slim and elegant chassis that is accentuated with unique colours and sensuous styling yet it still utilises the highest quality components and materials like a 10.1 inch high resolution display with its proper aspect ratio which delivers sharper and brighter images, as well as the most accurate pl...

an ideal travelling companion October 28, 2009 L. Robinson (Salisbury Wilts) 25 out of 25 found this review helpful
I bought a Samsung NC10 Netbook for my daughter in July 2009 for her new semester in uni. She is really pleased with it and I am envious of how light and convenient it is to be carried around. When the new version (N130) was launched in September 2009 I treated myself to one and I am delighted with it! I like the normal-size keys, the long lasting battery power and the built in webcam. I have bought an external DVD/CRW drive so that both my daughter and I could use it. It fits in nicely in my handbag and I look forward to taking it to keep me company during the 10 hours' flight of my forthcoming trip! What a little gem it is!
Excellent little netbook! March 12, 2010 J. Witton (Yorkshire, UK) 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
I bought this netbook in October 2009 to take to university with me each day- while I have a good HP laptop for what it cost, it's not the most portable of things, so after a lengthy search I settled upon this netbook... and having had it for just on six months now, I feel I've got to know it well enough to give it a worthwhile review!
Firstly, don't be dubious of the battery life- having a 6 hour claim is a big one, but I've had 7 hours out of this on a good day on a single charge- this was when using Office, browsing the internet and using MSN Messenger... the best way to get more life out of it is to simply reduce the screen's brightness- you should never need it about 80% as is, but at around 60% I've noticed it gives you about another 90 minutes of battery life!
The netbook itself is lovely and lightweight, and it fits in anything that an A4 notebook will fit in (in my case a handbag). The power cable also has a compact, lighter block on it, again reducing the weight.
The keyboard IS almost normal keyboard size, and I only found it took a little getting used to. It's nice and responsive, feels very robust, and is even apparently antimicrobial! All I would say is the page up key is too close to the up and shift keys- quite easy to press accidentally.
I've never pushed the performance of the processor- I never bought this to be my everyday computer, so haven't tried any games to test out the CPU or graphics, but I'm more than happy to say that it runs fine with several MSN Messenger conversations on the go, more than half a dozen Firefox tabs, Excel and Word all going simultaneously. Nice, fast startup, too!
The webcam is of good quality, the sound is good enough, the screen I feel could do with being one of the crystal ones, though that may just be me being very used to that sort, with my main laptop having one.
The actual netbook colour is a very nice, almost pearlescent off-white. It is like this all over the netbook, so no glossy patches to worry about getting scratched. It's got smooth, rounded edges to it's outside, while inside the casing around the screen is also rounded, with the casing around the keyboard edge helping to fit this. It's flat around the front however, so it doesn't irritate when typing away on the keyboard.
One final recommendation- to keep it clean and stop things getting into the keypad, invest a few quid (no more than £10) in one of the neoprene netbook sleeves- they act as a shock absorber when transporting them around, and gives you some piece of mind.
All in all though, I'd say you would struggle to get a better netbook for your money. I'm MORE than impressed with this, having been very cynical of netbooks when they first appeared on the market.
Its amazing, buy one today November 16, 2009 C. M. Kern 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
What can I say. Its little, its cute and it runs for ages. It comes with everything you need to start working right away (including a 1 year trial for Office 2007). Buy some extra memory for it would be my only tip.

A great little netbook for the price. I take a lot of photos when I go abroad for holidays and I need a laptop to download them. This little gadget is so much easier than carrying a normal size laptop around. Has a big enough hard drive for my needs.
Fantastic piece of kit all round January 12, 2010 Sms Mckenzie (London) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'd been wanting a netbook for a while and really researched in detail those within my price range before finally settling on the samsung N130.
First off, the design is fantastic. Very clean, the battery is not too chunky, it is really light and i love the smoothness and the finish of the case.
I was a little worried as i'd heard about extensive set-up times but it is not signifcantly longer than the setup of any other laptop or desktop running windows. Obviously you have to register windows, and connect to the wireless and download virus updates but i had that all done within the hour (i wasn't sitting there watching it which probably made it go a little faster), although if i had it would have installed faster as on my return every ten minutes i found it waiting for some kind of input. However, to set everything up including norton antivurs (and uninstall McAfee) i did have to restart the PC three times before using it.
The only difference i'd say is that it asks you to set up a partition 'for restoration purposes' which takes 10 minutes.
Wireless works fine, easy and quick to setup, and i found it easy to download norton from the website (i didn't purchase an external cd/dvd drive), and it updated within 10 minutes.
I don't find myself missing any features i.e. bluetooth, and the single speakers are fine for watching things like youtube. I don't know why anyone would need portable speakers as if you are travelling you'd use headphones anyway so don't let this put you off. Free windows office is a bonus although i am still working out how to put in the key to buy a full license of Home and Student (i purchased this for another pc a couple of months ago).
What i love most about it is that it boots up extremely quickly and runs programs such as word easily. I have used photoshop on it which runs extremely quickly (which i was very quite surprised at) and the small netbook screen isn't a problem.
All in all this is a great product for the price and for regular use. I got my netbook its own portable mouse though as i found the touchpad fiddly, but that runs true for all laptops in my opinion!
